Students and teachers mention ways to stay healthy is quarantine

Good physical and mental health is always good, but right now, in quarantine, it’s more important than ever. For some people, that’s easy, and for others, it’s not.

“I want to be healthy right now so I can be better prepared for soccer season,” says eighth-grader Julia Gire. “I believe being healthier can give you better mental health.”

Mental health can help people be happier, with an overall positive mindset. Physical education teacher Becca Johnson shares her tips to being healthy.

“I am trying to stick to a routine. I exercise every day and walk my dogs for at least 45 or more every day,” Johnson said. “I make sure I eat regularly and eat a variety of nutrients and am trying to get as much vitamin C as I can.”

When contemplating being healthy or not, you can’t just think about what’s going on, you have to think about other factors.

“You should think about yourself and the future, instead of just the present,” Gire said.

“I am not trying to be healthy in quarantine because I already feel like I am healthy enough,” sixth-grader Colin Harrison said. “I am following social distance rules, but I don’t think that there is any other way else to prevent the virus.”

“Start by writing out a routine down, like a checklist for every day. Once you go about a week with that check list, things will become more of a habit,” says Johnson.
