On Saturday, Sep. 28, UPrep hosted the annual homecoming dance at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle.
ASB President and junior, Huda Hassan notes that the Nordic Museum wasn’t always the plan.
“The Nordic museum wasn’t our first option. It was one of our best options,” Hassan said. “Unfortunately, people at the Science Center didn’t want to talk to us.”
Junior Brody Eintracht felt as though the museum was a great host for the event.
“The atmosphere was great and the location fit well with what we needed.”
Hassan felt as though last year’s Spring Fling getting canceled didn’t affect the planning for homecoming this year.
“It wasn’t a theme that people were that excited for. It just wasn’t hype enough,” Hassan said. “For the future, we’re definitely going straight from the casual setting and make it hype. We need to build up hype.”
Ninth grader Iyla Duncan was taken aback by learning of the cancellation of spring fling last spring.
“It’s disappointing to hear, but it makes sense,” Duncan said. “I just hope it doesn’t affect our year.”
With an emphasis on school spirit this year as school theme, the homecoming volleyball game was intended to be the main event.
“It’s tied to the games and the pep rally that’s happening on Wednesday.” Hassan said.
Sophomore Gabe Granby didn’t quite feel the focus on school spirit.
“Some songs created more spirit than others,” Granby said. “There were some people who never participated unfortunately.”
For the rest of this year, Hassan calls on the students to make it all come together.
“Show up and show out,” Hassan said. “In order for something to be hype, you have to be hype yourself.”
