Now we know what to do if Queen Elizabeth comes to town
Annie: It had been over six years since I had been to the Queen Mary Tea Room. So when I stepped into the restaurant, a wave of nostalgia hit me. I remember going there with my mom years ago and being treated like a princess. When I looked into the tea room now, I saw many girls around the age I was then, wearing tiaras and sipping tea.
Micho: I had been to the Queen Mary tea room three weeks ago. I was greeted with the familiar smell of brewing tea and baking pastries. The owner, Queen Mary, remembered me from my last visit and told me that I knew more about tea than most of her staff. Once seated, I ordered my usual of Royal Rose tea; a lovely black tea with added rose petals for a nice floral undertone.
Annie: I ended up choosing the Indian Chai, which did not come in a “bottomless teapot.” Micho explained to me that this meant that I would not receive a refill. Fortunately, this was not an issue for me. The tea was delicious and tasted like gingerbread.
Micho: After getting served our tea we ordered afternoon tea, which consists of a three-tier platter of assorted savories, fruits, and sandwiches. My favorite dish from the platter is the pork sausage roll.
Annie: I was impressed with the waitress, who rattled off descriptions of each item. My favorites were the butterscotch coconut bars and the lemon poppyseed bread.
One of my biggest problems when eating out has always been spilling. Micho was appalled by the way I poured my tea, because it would spill down the side of the pot. This prompted him to start counting my spills over the course of the whole meal. By the end of tea, I had spilled five times. Micho spilled three times, although if you asked him he’d say it was only once.
Micho: I lost faith in Annie about half way through the tea. She dropped her sorbet five minutes in, she spilled her tea five times and dropped her quiche right onto the table cloth. But, besides Annie’s multiple spills, the overall experience was amazing and I recommend it to anyone with a need to get away from their busy lives for awhile.
