Staying Focused

Staying+Focused

English class is a time to talk, learn, write, and read. English class is not a time to be on your phones slacking off. This is why the Upper School English teachers have chosen a great way of avoiding this problem. A phone spa. Now I first thought that this was incredibly stupid, and we could just put our phones in our bags. However, as the weeks have progressed, I have noticed more and more how much not having our phones on us helps.

Be honest with yourself. Given the choice between texting and being on your phone, or doing classwork, which would you rather do? Most would say, “I would rather be on my phone,” and if you said that, thanks for being honest. I have seen people on their phones during class, especially if those classes don’t require you to put your phone in an area that is away.

The English class phone spa is quite helpful to me, as the “out of sight, out of mind” feeling kicks in. I believe that I am more productive in English class than anywhere else because I don’t constantly have my phone on my mind. I get all my work done, sometimes I finish my homework in class, and if I can do that, I can sometimes get my work for other classes finished. I am never able to do this in other classes because I’m distracted.

Now I know for a fact that people will disagree with me, but I think the phone spas are quite helpful to the learning and focus of us students. These phone spas have taken away a major distraction during class, and that is an overall improvement to the learning environments that we need to thrive. Yes, they do seem annoying, tedious or unnecessary, but they aren’t.

Phones are just another distraction during class, and the goal of learning is to thrive, not sit on your phones. So overall, phone spas aren’t so bad. Think of them more as just another tool to help you learn and do your best.

How do you feel about phone spas?
