Meet some of the faces behind the counter
The Commons Cafe has been serving University Prep students and faculty for 32 years. Hundreds of students and teachers pass through every day buying snacks, lunch, and breakfast. However, we wanted to introduce you to just a few of the people that make it all possible.
Before working at the Commons Cafe, Kevin Le worked as cashier of a grocery store with his wife, Cyrill Tan. Soon, however, the work grew boring, and he sought new opportunities.
“We just got kind of tired of working over there,” Le said. “This place is a lot better, a lot more fun people.”
Outside of the commons, Le and his wife enjoy a number of hobbies.
“Right now, if you’re talking game-wise, we’re playing Valorant. We’re also watching anime, and on the side I read manga,” Le said. “I’m also studying stuff. It’s not really fun, but it’s like something I want to be. I hope to be a software developer., I’m just applying to jobs on the side.”
Le has an idea for improvement in the commons.
“More space for the computer. Just because it’s [the lunch line is] slow, and we don’t have that much space. So that’s why it’s been super slow, for high school especially,” Le said.
Additionally, Le shared his favorite foods to eat in the commons.
“Snapple peach tea. I also like the fish and chips. I’m a simple guy,” Le said. “For snacks, I like the jalapeno chips.”
