From dealing with elementary school bullies to running for student body president, Huda Hassan has shown she can prosper in challenging situations. Taking a further look into her personality, many may be surprised by her capacity to deal with challenges coupled with a hard-charging instinct.

“Basically, I would say I’m pretty, resilient and strong and I know how to face my problems and overcome them,” student body president Huda Hassan said.

She has shown this resilience countless times, but she wanted to highlight a common bullying issue that she resolved independently in elementary school.

“One time I was in first grade and I basically had two bullies. They would always pull me back when I was sitting down and make me fall on the floor. I would tell the teacher every time, but the teacher wouldn’t do anything. So I eventually threatened them. I said, ‘Don’t do that to me again or I’ll do it to you every single day,’ and then they stopped. I’m not shy. I wasn’t a coward, I really meant what I said, and I stand by that till this day, still not regretting anything,” Hassan said.

Additionally, she knows who she represents in the UPrep community and who she needs to advocate for. Hassan will do everything in her power to paint a picture of herself that the students can look up to so the UPrep community can progress.

“Me being black and being a woman, being Somali, being hijabi. I feel like that’s really important to represent positively, especially in the UPrep community,” Hassan said.

Hassan aspires to be an approachable honest person and prides herself on being trustworthy and trusting at the same time.

“Like I’m someone who can trust others to a point where they can also trust me back. I would say that I’m like the ideal extrovert,” Hassan said.

She honors this when advocating for the student body by being open, understanding, and kind in interactions.

Huda sets lofty goals for her future and creates situations in the present that will allow her to achieve those goals.

“I mean, I’ve always wanted to be a doctor and I’ve always been in leadership roles throughout my school life. I like those high positions like neurosurgery. Mess up? I’m going to prison,” Hassan said.
