Uber overtakes taxis, buses, and all other driving services

The year 2014 was the breakout of Uber. An innovative driving service, Uber has flourished worldwide, this past year, and many University Prep students choose to take Uber as opposed to taking a taxi or a bus.

High school students use Uber going to concerts, coming home from practices, and coming home from parties. People even use Uber when going out to lunch. Freshman Anna Demopulous used Uber throughout volleyball season this past year to get home from practice every day, especially when she had later practices.

“I love Uber. I have used Uber when there is no way for me to get to some place that I need to go. Also going to friends’ houses, coming home from volleyball, and even a going to a concert.”

Even those who don’t use Uber frequently have used Uber a couple times when riding to and from locations. Although Uber might appear to be something that only those of us who cannot drive would use, it’s really not.

Junior Abby Kauff uses Uber frequently when it is really late at night, and when coming home from concerts, such as Bumbershoot. Although, Kauff can now can drive on her own and does not need to use Uber nearly as much anymore. Abby still uses Uber whenever she does not have access to a car.

“One of the many reasons I like Uber is because they give you water bottles, the drivers are

really nice.” Junior Abby Kauff. People of all ages use Uber’s car service, even adults. Most parents enjoy the idea of their kids using Uber over other transportation methods. Anna Demopulous’s mother Diane said she prefers to use Uber because it a safe, monitored system, and its service is very quick. However, Diane said that she once run into an issue once with Uber.

“My daughter had a rude driver while she was alone in the car with him, which I find slightly worrisome. He started trying to lecture her about her being a couple minutes late to the pickup spot,” Diane said. Although the issue was not with Uber directly, it can be redundant for some parents to put their kid(s) into cars alone with unknown, fully grown adults.

Junior Abby Kauff shared her opinion about Uber’s safety, “It is an app, so it’s more useful. You can rate your driver, which allows you to know that you have a safer driver,”  said Kauff. Some people don’t love Uber because people find the prices outrageous. Kauff says Uber is quite expensive, for  a car service.

Freshman Donovan Bown also spoke about his experience with Uber. “I really like Uber because I find it convenient and the pricing is  average,” said  Bown. Uber is trending up.  The app based service is just the tip of the iceberg  with the new technology in smart phones, and apps, such as Uber.
