New Year, New Faces

Get to know the person behind the mask!

Jackie Takamiya

Jackie Takamiya (she/her) is a new freshman, who graduated from The Evergreen School.

Coming from a small school, she is excited to take her education one step further.

I chose UPrep because…
“… of programs that I found interesting like intensives and global programs.”
Outside the classroom…
“… I’m a competitive swimmer and play volleyball. I also like to read.”
Over the summer I…
“…took a photography class and spent time with my family and friends.”

Joey Glick

Joey Glick (he/him) moved from New York and is a sophomore. Before UPrep, Glick went to a school called Ramaz. Unfortunately, his two year spent at Ramaz were heavily impacted by COVID-19, but frrom his limited experience, Ramaz was quite different from UPrep. Located in the heart of New York City, Ramaz’s campus was limited to a single building, so comparatively, UPrep’s campus is quite larger.

I chose UPrep because…
“… my brother was looking for high school and he considered UPrep. Due to that, we knew about the school and decided to apply.”
Outside the classroom…
“… I like to play basketball, play video games, hang out with friends and watch football.”
Over the summer I…
“… I went to a summer camp in Wisconsin. After that, I came to Seattle just to leave back to Chicago a week later.”

Yasmine Akacem

Yas Akacem (she/her) is an incoming sophomore who moved to Seattle from Bristol, Rhode Island. Akacem went to a public school, before being homeschooled during the pandemic. Akacem was drawn to UPrep’s student teacher relationships.

I chose UPrep because…
“… of all the schools I looded at, UPrep seemed the most welcoming.”
Outside the classroom…
“… I play the bass and I’m getting into producing some of my own music. I like to play games on my PC and watch anime.”

Priscilla Lindberg

Priscilla Linderberg (she/her) is looking forward to teaching at UPrep for the rest of the year. For Lindberg, UPrep seemed like a community that was dedicated to excellent teaching and student development.

I am the…
Upper School History Teacher
I chose my career because…
“… [teaching] was worth spending my love and energy on and could be a way to change society for the better.”
Outside of work, I enjoy…
“…travel, especially to Mongolia, where I lived for a couple of years. In Mongolia, I rode horses and camels. In general, I love to write, read, practice archery and take care of animals.”

Patrick King

Patrick King (he/him) is the new diversity and community program leader. He did not have a black teacher until he was in college, so wanted to change that narrative for future students. After joining partway through last school year, King is looking forward to a year of relative normalcy.

I am the…
Diversity and Community Program Manager
I chose my career because…
“… I was inspired by the DEI work being done here and wanted to work with s

tudent leaders.”

Outside of work, I enjoy…
“…I love baking bread. Before the pandemic, I loved bouldering and can’t wait to get back into it. I also just started training for a half marathon with my partner.”

Kayleigh Concepcion

Kayleigh Concepcion (she/her) just moved from Hawaii and is still dealing with the drastic change in environments. Through teaching, Concepcion says she has a better understanding of the challenges of educational inequity.

I am the…
Upper School Science Teacher
I chose my career because…
“… the education system is equitable and I am constantly seeking ways to challenge systems of oppression within education.”
Outside of work, I enjoy…
“…reading, being outdoors, playing soccer, drinking boba and hanging out with my dog!”
