Outgoing ASB President Henry Buscher

It seems like only yesterday that I was elected as ASB President. Of course, a glance at the calendar tells me it’s been nearly a full year — and what a year it’s been! First semester online, most of second back on campus in some form and before we know it, the year is starting to wind down. Which means, it’s time to close things out.
Thank you all for a year that, although unusual, was still pretty great. From the assemblies to the sports pods to the eventual return to in-person school, the Puma spirit, through many trials, has remained alive and well throughout the entire COVID-19 ordeal.
Whether it was online assembly events, such as a pumpkin carving competition run out of people’s homes, or senior circle, where college choices were the name of the day, I for one found that the usual UPrep student enthusiasm had not been a casualty of online school.
It’s the job of the ASB Executives to plan out the school events, but only the student body can make them come alive. Even in a year like this, you all rose to the occasion. When we held an online trivia night, I didn’t expect many of you to turn up, but instead you all came out by the dozens and enthusiastically tackled the questions. I can think of no better example of the Puma spirit: a spirit that was present throughout the entire year. So again, thank you.
Speaking of thanks, I’d like to extend the utmost gratitude to this year’s ASB Vice President, Joseph Yeung, and Executives Grace Paterson and Abby Headstrom. My role on ASB is vastly overshadowed by these three, who have put countless amounts of time, stress and work into putting on school events. I’ll miss working with these three and wish them the best of luck as they go on to different things. Likewise, thank you to the ASB reps, and to those who will be replacing us next year. Abby, Cade, Haley and Theo, I wish you good luck (not that you need it) and a better year than this one.
As my time as President and as a student at UPrep come to a close, I’d like to thank you all for the good times, the bad times, and all the experiences that make life at UPrep unique. Serving our school in this leadership position has been an honor. Whatever course my life takes, I sincerely hope that our paths will cross again in the future. Goodbye, good luck and go Pumas!
