Our Country is at Stake
Let me set the record straight: Donald Trump simply does not care about all Americans. During the presidential debate in September, he was asked many times if he would condemn white supremacy. His answer: “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by. But I’ll tell you what, Somebody’s got to do something about antifa and the left. Because this is not a right-wing problem — this is a left-wing problem.”
This was not his first time not speaking out against racial injustice. Back in 2017, Trump infamously called neo-Natzis “very fine people.” This should not and will not be accepted.
Apart from his inability to call out blatant racism, Trump has put the rights of women and the LGBTQ plus community at risk. Just this summer, the Trump administration ruled that a transgender person could be excluded from a shelter on the basis of gender.
In addition, Donald Trump has nominated Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States. In the past, Barrett put her name on an anti-abortion advertisement for the South Bend Tribune saying, “We, the following citizens of Michiana, oppose abortion on demand and defend the right to life from fertilization to natural death.” If confirmed, Barret will threaten Roe v. Wade, which promises the right to an abortion for all childbearing individuals.
If you are not affected by the actions and threats from the Trump administration, think about those in your life that are.
I am telling you all of this because I am scared. And I hope that after reading that, you are too. But we can fix the mess we are in.
On Nov. 3, America will decide who the next president of the United States will be. I need each and every one of you to stand behind Joe Biden. Is he the president that many of us had hoped for? No. But he is multitudes better than president Trump and he needs your support, whether that be through encouraging your parents to vote at the dinner table or casting a ballot yourself. I am counting on you. Our country is at stake.
