Full Day of Food Heaven
Finding a little extra time on my hands, I tried cooking through some baking projects
Since the school shutdown started, I’ve had a lot of time on my hands, and you might too. Here’s a way you can spend an entire day cooking and get rewarded with amazing food. I’ve split each food item into three sections: 1) Review, where I say what I think of the food; 2) Things to Remember, where I explain important things I learned in the process of making the food and/or add-ons; and 3) Final Verdict, where I explain if making that meal is overall worth it.
Breakfast: Avocado Toast w/ an Egg on Homemade White Bread
REVIEW:
This is one of the best ways to start your day. It works with all types of bread, but having homemade bread (recipe below) takes it to the next level. I used two thinner pieces of bread for this breakfast, with some crushed avocado spread out on each lightly-toasted piece. I put some balsamic vinegar on the bread, which adds another layer of taste complexity.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
It’s essential that the egg yolk is cooked to be perfectly runny; take it off the stove right after the yolk gets a cloudy-white layer over it. Optional to add (but I didn’t have): halved cherry tomatoes and arugula on top.
FINAL VERDICT
Definitely worth it — both the bread and the avocado toast. The bread is miles better than white bread you can buy at the grocery store, and since it’s homemade, you can make sure there aren’t any unnecessary, unhealthy preservatives. This is a pretty healthy, full meal!
