People have started placing phones anywhere, just to film a TikTok video.

With the internet and social media rapidly taking over, trends start becoming a thing. Trends can play major parts in the lives of internet users, but some people think they’re unnecessary.

“I think that if you are trendy, and know the current trends, it’s easier to fit in because everyone knows the trends,” eighth-grader Anna Schriver said. “I like to be trendy because most times, the people who start trends and popularize them, are usually good looking.”

Trends tend to become trendy because something about it is unique. In 2017 and 2018, some of the biggest internet trends were pouring ice buckets on people and flipping water bottles.

“I don’t think that you need to be trendy in order to fit in,” seventh-grader Eli Wacksman said. “I just think that you need something that other people find unique and interesting about you.”

“On average, I spend anywhere from 4-7 hours a day on social media,” Schriver said. “In my opinion, one of the biggest trends this year is TikTok dancing.”

Dancing on TikTok has been popularized by creators such as Charli D’Amelio, and Addison Easterling, who have earned over 25.5 million and 38 million followers respectively.

“Dancing on TikTok is bigger than ever right now,” seventh-grader Jasper Schmidt said. “I don’t think you need to have the newest clothes or keep up with all the trends to fit in. I think that you should just be yourself.”

“The only times I feel the need to be trendy, is on special occasions, such as birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, and the first day of school,” Schmidt said

As TikTok grows in users, trends will only become more popular, with even more people wanting to join in on the trends. Trends may become the norm soon.
