Take a Break

A typical student at University Prep finds their days stuffed to overflowing with school activities — studying for an upcoming calculus test, hammering out an analytical essay for English and putting the finishing touches on a history project. With little free-time to spare, we often push to the side important activities like eating dinner with our families, having a conversation with a friend or simply taking a much-needed break from all the stress of daily life.

In just four school days, however, UPrep students will escape from the whirlwind of school life for two full weeks. Winter break is now the longest period without school other than summer vacation.

The opportunities of winter break lie far beyond that of a typical two-day weekend. With assignments and most extracurricular events suspended for the duration, students will finally have time for activities that often get left off of our busy schedules.

While it may be tempting to binge watch your favorite Netflix shows for the entire 17 days of winter break, consider spending some of your time doing the activities you wish you had time for during the rest of the school year.

The holiday season is the perfect time to get out of the house and enjoy the some of the festivities listed the feature, pages 8-9, with your family or set aside a day to enjoy the snow with your friends at the ski lifts or on a hiking trail.

Surrounded by a constant stream of stress during the school year, it can be easy to forget about the most meaningful ways to spend our time. With the upcoming break, however, remember the activities and people you don’t have time for during the busy school year, and enjoy the “most wonderful time of the year.”
