RIP Environment

President-elect Trump owned up to his campaign promise to dismantle key climate change policies by appointing an extremely controversial man to lead the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) transition team. Trump chose Scott Pruitt, who,has take legal action against the EPA thirteen times about climate change and is currently engaged in lawsuits against them.

Pruitt is currently the attorney general of the environmentally reckless state Oklahoma. If approved as head of the EPA, Pruitt will be in the conflicting position of defending, or not defending, his agency against the eight pending lawsuits, including his own.

We’ll have Pruitt, who appears to despise the EPA and everything it stands for.

“The American people are tired of seeing billions of dollars drained from our economy due to unnecessary EPA regulations and I intend to run this agency in a way that fosters both responsible protection of the environment and freedom for American businesses.” Pruitt said.

Pruitt is obviously not a man of facts or science if he doesn’t believe in global warming. He has stated that he wants protection for the environment but he also wants more freedom for businesses. This likely means greenhouse gas emissions will not be monitored or regulated if Pruitt’s agenda comes to dominate Trump’s EPA. Also, regulations for pesticides will be loosened too.

Pruitt recently joined a coalition of state general attorneys in suing the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, one of Obama’s most influential policy contributions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is odd, as the Clean Power Plan has successfully incorporated many environmentally friendly sources of electricity into the energy grid. But Pruitt is against this entire agenda. So, it appears the future head of the EPA has some very conflicting and contradicting opinions.

Surprisingly, or maybe not, on Pruitt’s Linkedin page he boasts of being “a leading advocate against the EPA’s activist agenda.”

Not only will Pruitt be dismissing well-established science when it comes to global warming, he’ll loosen regulations on greenhouse gas emissions,  bringing on bleak effects to our poor, degrading environment.
