2026 marks 50 years of University Prep. UPrep was founded Feb. 29, 1976. To celebrate this milestone in UPrep’s history, faculty and staff reflected on some of their favorite memories.
David Crabb is a PE teacher who has been at UPrep for nearly 33 years, which is the longest out of any faculty member. He reflects on his time teaching here, and what memories he will take with him when he leaves UPrep.
“What I’m going to remember the most [about my time at UPrep], maybe little stories here and there about certain things that happened,” Crabb said. “But for the most part, what I take away from this school is just a wonderful feeling of accomplishment, a wonderful feeling of joy, and I felt privileged to be able to teach here and to teach amazing students.”
Associate Director of Development Claire Fallat works with alumni.
“Our alumni are such a great and growing group of people,” Fallat said. “And I just feel really honored to be able to connect them with current students and help steward their stories,”
Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Taylor Kanemori, an alum, shares a personal memory of her time at UPrep and how the teachers made her experience as a student unique and memorable.
“I was really supported here as a student, and I think that my biggest takeaway is that my teachers really cared about me, and they were willing to help me, so I felt really supported,” Kanemori said. “School wasn’t necessarily super easy for me. It was actually pretty challenging. I am dyslexic, with a learning disability, and just having teachers that work really hard to make sure I was understanding content and that I was doing well was amazing.”
Director of Athletics Rebecca Moe, who has been at UPrep for 27 years, recognizes the resilience and bravery of the school.
“I’ve been at UPrep on some of the best days ever, and then I’ve also been at UPrep on some of the dark, challenging days,” Moe said. “And those days, those harder days, always reminded us of our power and strength in community.”
