Finals are approaching, sports are wrapping up, and Prom is just around the corner. This end-of-year celebration is a dance and a party. For junior and Student Body President Huda Hassan, it’s the result of a long stretch of hard work.
“The process starts a couple months back,” Hassan said.“We think about what we want to do, and where we want the location to be. We talk with students about previous locations, we want to get their opinions on those.”
Student government decided to switch the venue of Prom for this upcoming dance.
“We weren’t hearing a lot of good things about Salty’s, our old location, so we went out on a limb and tried something new this year.”
senior Ravi Saluja, who left last year’s prom after 30 minutes, said.
“I felt like [last year’s] seniors were cooped up after the senior dinner,” Saluja said, “And they all wanted to leave because they were already at the venue for two hours. We were there for like half an hour, and then we just left.”
The now confirmed venue for the 2025 Prom will be Dockside at Dukes, an lakefront location commonly used for weddings, and will be on May 31st from 8:30 to 11:00pm.
“It’s an open and beautiful venue,” Hassan said. “I think it has enough space for the students, but it’s intimate enough to have decorations as well. And the view is beautiful.”
Hassan emphasizes the importance of picking a location to host.
“I’m in charge of organizing all of the nitty, gritty details,” Hassan said. “I’m in charge of making sure everyone is happy.”
