The Upper School Winter Concert took place on Friday, Dec. 13, featuring an assortment of classical, jazz and holiday music.
Sophomore Concertmaster Alicia Sun was jittery as usual before the performance.
“It’s still a little nerve-wracking as it comes with performing, but it’s still really fun,” Sun said. “It’s just a really great opportunity to perform, get used to the nerves on the stage.”
The whole concert came together late, with the setlist undecided until days before.
“There were a few pieces that we threw in last minute,” Sun said. “The last piece, Nutcracker, was the most difficult, and we kind of fumbled our way through.”
Despite this, the concert was a success, with various musical acts and a not-so-musical one.
“We had Aiden Roberts read Frog and Toad, and that was really, really fun,” Sun said. “It was really funny, and I think it just lightened up the mood a little bit.”
She is excited about the future of the Chamber Orchestra. It is a young group that will have time to develop.
“We’re a little chaotic during class, so I think that’ll come through time,” Sun said. “The more we get to know each other, the more we kind of calm down, get used to it.”
As a leader of the group, Sun looks to set an example for the younger members.
“So a lot of [9th graders], they tend to look up to other students, which is really helpful,” Sun said. “Through leadership and helping to guide them… we show development.”
All of these factors make her optimistic for the next semester and on.
“I think we just have a lot more variety and instruments this year,” Sun said. “Which is really nice to get us more parts and more options.”
